Sponge Art is a unique puzzle game from Good Job Games. In this free-to-play casual experience, you get to build different figures by tying a block of sponge using rubber bands. This game is definitely easy to learn, yet difficult to master. Figures vary from fruits, animals, with each attempt graded depending on how close you were to the target image.

Sponge as an art medium

The main premise of the game is to create different shapes by tying a block of sponge at weird and creative angles. You can create a colored pinwheel, a pig with shades, or even a fluffy puppy. Aside from using rubber bands, the game also gives you a cutter to remove the rubber bands you’ve placed, letting you create a more accurate work with a sponge as an art medium.

In terms of controls, you only need to drag between the opposite ends of your sponge. Its smooth animation makes the game feel intuitive and enjoyable. However, while the designs are multicolored, the details are only stamped in once you get the shape right. You only use one color of sponge and the game only challenges you to capture the rough shape of the image.

Lastly, the game uses fun sounds that help the game experience. From the snapping rubber bands, the squish of the sponge, to the celebratory end-level sequence, these are simple auditory cues that help you enjoy the game even more. Unfortunately, the game also suffers from repetitiveness past the halfway mark, or around after 60 stages. You start seeing the same pictures past that point.

It has bright colors and easy gameplay mechanics, making it easy to enjoy for a wide range of players. However, since you’re manipulating the sponge, don’t expect to capture the same detail and color range as your target image. Still, this is a good game to try.
